America West Airlines - February, 1989

America West was a terrific airline. I can remember them advertising their hubs in Las Vegas and Phoenix as "Superhub." I flew them many times to Las Vegas. America West bought US Airways and took the latter's name in 2005.
















































America West did fly to Nagoya, Japan for a short time. The routing was JFK-PHX-HNL-NGO. After the company declared bankruptcy, the HNL and Nagoya routes were sold to Northwest. The four 747s that were acquired from KLM were parked in LAS and were not used again until they were utilized to transport troops during the Gulf War.
